While we're at it, what about math and science books. Unfortunately, I'm too old to read any of the textbooks we may have received from the publisher which might talk about math and science.

I'm thinking particularly about the special symbols that might be used. Will the publishers convert these symbols, or will they just conver to "graphics".

They say that a picture is worth a thousand words, but who will supply those words if the picture can't be read?

Hi Monica,

Good idea. Talk is cheap. Facts prove generalizations. There ought to be a disignation on books with picture descrptions so that people will know about it. Maybe something in the title? Oh, lemme see, something like The_Wind_in_the_Willows_PD. That would let folks know that the book has been specially treated and needs to be kept. Shoot, if we can have BSO books, we can have PD books too. Whatcha think?

Regular novels and so on that are submitted by the publishers could replace badly scanned books.

What about handwritten passages in books. These do not show up in regular printed text. Thinking of the handwriting on the map in Book Three of The Harry Potter series. Will publishers make sure these things are readable? I had a page like that in one of the Miss Zukas's I was doing. Had to get a transcript and add it in.

The concern about tables is valid as well. As the formatting for tables and poetry going to be kept?

Ann P.
