The difference is that page numbers are usually already in the book, so why add
extra unnecessary text instead of something already there that you can just
move from the bottom of the page? It's just more elegant.

And I'm not convinced that the stripper always does eat that text every time. I
can think of at least one book that had an extra word "Chapter" at the
beginning of each chapter. By adding, or as is usually the case, just moving, a
page number to the top of the page, if the stripper doesn't eat the text used
to protect the chapter title, you just have a page number there instead of junk
text that wasn't in the book. Much better looking.

Since the stripper eats it, Evan, what's the diff? <smile>

No, it will not protect it. You need to have some text above it for the
stripper to strip.

Why not just use the page number? If you're going to have to put something
above the chapter title in any case, why not put something that is needful and
part of the book anyway, instead of something that is not?

    As Lissi Says, Hi Booksharians,

When the chapter name such as "Chapter One" is the first thing at the top
of the page and the page number is at the bottom of a page, (and I do not wish
to move the page number), will putting one blank line on both sides of the
chapter name protect it? Thanks.

    Susan
