Folks with some energy healing training don't really use the
'cataleptizing' part of the technique, but the name has still stuck.
The difference is that with the original application the focus is on
representative reactions. With sufficient subtle sensitivity, the channels
in the hand itself give input - a 'reading', if you will.
So that would be another transformation of the technique.

Reading a bit off of google books from Miracle, Solution and System, it
seems that there is a process where you can induce your hand into an
independent sensing system that can do what reps do in representational
perception. Which makes the whole thing “cataleptic” rather than just a
useful nearby object to hold a representation in the system (like a chair).

You can look up lots of references in Insa Sparrer's book 'Miracle,
Solution & System'. I believe the technique was adopted to SySt from
hypnosis, where it signifies something slightly different. From there to
more general work.
