There may be some cross cultural dynamics at work here along this topic,as
well as profound differences as to the role and responsibilities of the SCW
facilitator. In the psychotherapy model, and with coaching, confrontation
is often useful and effective. In trauma work, this is rarely the case.
And here I wish to be very clear that as a trauma specialist, I do not
accept any necessity for cruelty in my seminars with systemically oriented
trauma work. In my view, traumatized people have suffered already,victims,
perpetrators and some who are both, and I am not willing to do anything to
add
to their pain, or compromise their dignity. With skill and experience one
can find creative ways to assist these clients in facing extremely
difficult issues without the risk of public humiliation and/or
re-traumatization.
