Hi,
You can get SurfaceReader from http://www.raisedbar.net.
I had contact with the Logic team leader a couple of years back and he told me
to expect one of his developers to get in touch to see what was required – I
never heard anything, despite several attempts on my part ot re-establish
contact. You won’t get anywhere with SurfaceReader and Logic until the
inaccessibility of the Environment window within Logic is addressed, as it’s
not possible to set up the required MIDI routings.
Best wishes.

Hi Tim I quite agree with that the last update caused some inaccessibilities,
the good news is that since I spoke to apple a couple of weeks ago, they are
aware of the problem, and are working rapidly to fix the problem since I
brought to their attention that I have a great contract that I need certain
features. I am speaking with a top senior engineer at Apple to get these issues
resolved.
I will certainly pass on the message that you would like to have your surface
controller interacting with Logic.
Can you give me again the web site where I can download the controller app, and
for the PC side as well as I'm working in sonar with the mackie control surface?
I'll definitly let you know what happens on the Mac side with your controller,
as I have screen sharing sessions with the team.
Cheers.

Hi,
I’d agree with all of that. There is a plan (a technical one, not just a
desire) to get Samplitude going with Windows 10 and it shouldn’t take much
effort.
I use both Windows and Mac machines professionally and there’s stuff both that
I like and stuff about both that makes me nuts, hence my comment about comfort.
Reaper is probably the most obvious transition tool, as you’ve now got an
accessibility solution that’s attempting to be common to both platforms.
Unfortunately, it isn’t the tool for me, but that’s personal preference. I
think that we’re at the start of the road with Native Instruments, which was
the start point of this thread, so I think it’s worth sitting tight for a
little while if you don’t have a pressing need to make a change (i.e. your
current audio computer has just blown up and you’ve got to buy another).
It’s a shame that the latest Logic update has broken bits, but it’s a hell of a
DAW for the money. I just wish they’d fix up the Environment window so that I
can get SurfaceReader working with it. Logic with a talking Mackie Control
would be a wondrous thing.
Best wishes.

This whole debate on wether one should jump to Mac is a sensitive issue .
Indeed protools is a complicated program even for those who are sited, so it
has nothing to do with efficiency because the protools interface is hard to
navigate with any system wether it be with VoiceOver. And Vision.
LIke Phil and Tim are saying if you are comfortable in the Windows environment
then staying there is okay too, however I'm sorry to say this on list however
Windows 7 is soon going to go, and we need to start thinking of using Windows
10 as the commercial market is going in that direction because unfortunatly
wether you guys want to here this or not, Windows 7 is going to be dead in the
water.
I'm HOpeing that Sampletude is going to work under Windows 10 which I"m sure
that is what's on the menu plan lol,
I have been using the Mac for the last several years, and it just takes a
matter of getting use to, however beeing efficient on the Mac can be quick too,
because I use Logic Pro, and it has numerous keyboard commands, and you are
able to map keyboard commands, and make your own, so saying that the Mac is not
efficient is not necessarily true, because Logic Pro is just as good as sonar.
Recently the latest update has given us access to use like in sonar
Letters s to solo, letter m to mute, and these are now beeing spoken by
VoiceOver.
You also have hot keys to be able to jump from the mixer view, and the track
view.
And I have recently discovered that when you are in the finder, and opening
files, with the quick key Nav turned yoff ou can function just like a PC in
using the arrow keys to navigate files, and whilst in the track headers of
Logic Pro you can navigate the list of tracks with your arrow keys.
Additionally, whilst opening a file and Logic, TextEdit, and other programs you
can also use your tab key to navigate the window.
Sure like all programs softwares Logic still has some ways to go, however I
have been able to record demo projects, and submit professional projects using
Logic Pro., and while automation is turned on, I can effectively while in the
mixer perform pan, volume, and send levels using the Mac keyboard.
I am currently working closely with Apple to make sure that things are just as
accessible with Logic Pro, and they are truly committed to making things
accessible., and Okay, I'm going to let the cat out of the bag, I'm developing
tutorials for Logic and GarageBand from a voiceOver perspective.
Unfortunatly we are at a point in time right now where things are in limbo, and
that' just the way it is .
Both platforms have there strengths and weaknesses, and in a perfect world
having both is the best as lots of commercial studios here in the states, and
Canada have both.
However, that beeing said, you need to consider on what is comfortable with
you. Sure it's hard for
Any one to make the switch, and that's no lie, however when I considered all
things considered about a year ago, I had to make a hard descitian to jump, and
I don't regret it one bit.
I'm going to say this again, if you are comfortable on the PC Windows is great,
as I honestly still use it under Caketalking and Sonar under Windows 7, and am
saddend that CT is not working under Windows 10, and am wanting to try
Sampletude when it comes out too.
Take the time that you need to, because Bill is here to help you make a good
purchase., and I am here to support what ever plat form one wishes to go to,
as well as consult, on what ever platform.
as well as teaching it too.
Lets all have fun with technology, and appreciate it too.
There's lots to choose from, and at some point you have to grab the candy in
the jar that you love lol.
Today's technology is overwelming indeed, and can be quite frustrating indeed
when it comes to deciding, , however, taking the time patiently and calmly is
the way you have to do it.
I'm HOpeing I didn't offend any one here, or scare any one, however I'm a
person who says it like it is.
Cheers.

I wouldn’t either as you won’t have access to Superior Drummer 2 etc. Note: I
have Pro Tools 12.5 here on the Mac and if you edit audio it’s great for that.
However even hi end PT users will tell you that to use it affectively you
really do need a control surface and having accessed PT on the Mac I can say
for sure that where as 1 keystroke would do on Windows to achieve the same
result, you are looking at using about 10 to do the same thing with Voiceover.
Sure you can use PT without a control surface but I wouldn’t recommend it.
However if like me you also do a lot of MIDI editing then, that’s another issue
again. Also you have to interact with tables etc and it’s not fast.
Anyway with great options like Samplitude and others such as Reaper you don’t
necessarily need to go that direction if you don’t want too.

Hi,
I wouldn’t jump to the Mac if you’re happy on Windows. Native Instruments have
publicly committed to making this functionality available on Windows, so just
sit tight.
Best wishes.
