Hi there.
Yep, those were real drums. You'd have to ask whoever recorded the session - that wasn't me. We were given the tracks for a course assignment. They included close miced parts of the kit, plus overheads, plus a mid/side pair to work with. I used Waves SSL Channel on the close miced tracks, then used parallel compression on all the room mics and mixed them together to taste.
All the close miced tracks were EQ'ed as well.
The pop on the harder snare hits is from the Waves SSL plug-in.
