What do you mean by "cracks up?"
Don't forget that you can fix many pitch and timing issues after
the fact. Also, it is common to record multiple takes of a
vocalist, and then take the best bits from all those takes and
assemble them into a composite or "comp" track.
It's a lot of work, but worth it in the end.
Doing any of that will involve lots of work with clips. See lessons
36 through 39 in the CakeTalking tutorial.
