It's not going to work when there's a limiter on the bus which makes the output
level below 0 always.

just an idea, set the bus output to 0 and read the output meter, that should
be the same as the input as long as you didn't make any change to the signal.
i believe sonar does not show metering for the bus input though i may be
wrong.

    Thanks Phil,

That'd be quite a work switching back and forth and turning on and off the
limiter.
Can you ask david to implement ways to read both peak and RMS meters for
input and output? Those are essential in audio production! I'd really
appreciate it.
Also, we should have a way to read output meter even if the track is armed.

In which case, turn the limiter off. That will give you a clearer idea
of how hard your driving the metres on a bus. Alternatively, look at
alternative scripts which give you access to Sonar's VU metres. That way you
may get an idea of how hard your driving the metres E.G, the RMS level that
your hitting the bus at. Finally, if the compressor that your using has
metering fully implemented, read off the various metres such as the gain
reduction metre in the compressor. The Sonitus compressor has full metering
implemented.

CT reports bus output meter, but is there way to read bus input meter
to see how hard I'm driving the bus? If there's a limiter on a bus, I won't
know if I'm clipping the bus or not since the output meter will be always below
0.
        Thanks,

        Chi
