Terri,

As far as I know, there were no .DXB files in the DOS days. .DXB only came about with DBTW. Duxbury for DOS generated .BRU (braille unformatted) and .BRF (braille formatted) files, and of course you could emboss the .BRF files directly. I've never tried it, but knowing what's in a .DXB file, if you sent it directly to your embosser, it would look very strange. For one thing, it has all the Duxbury codes which you don't want to see in the final braille. It also lacks the formfeeds needed for the embosser to go to the next page. I guess I'll just have to try it, but you haven't convinced me that it will work.

Dear Steve,

In the DOS days, I was able to emboss with a .dxb file. My embosser was
plugged into the parallel port. I don't remember doing anything else.

: Terri, : : I don't mean embossing directly through DBTW. When I said that, I : was thinking of it the way we did in the DOS days: by copying the : file to LPT1: or your favorite printer port.
