I like the idea of DSOTM. Maybe we could actually start it at midnight,
unless we have run out of ideas before?
Keep it a surprise?
Simon.

Ralph: Yes, I think that might be a bit repetitive, so let's give the
chart run down a miss this time. Thanks for trying anyway.
Jon.B: I also like the idea of the jingle between DJs to save Robojock
butting in.
Tony B does this very well - Any chance of knocking something up
please Tony?
I'd like other DJs to be able to phone in, so maybe worth looking at
your Mumble idea.
Simon: I agree about DJs doing shorter slots, so we can fit more in.
Maybe 60/90 minute slots?
Good idea about encouraging requests/dedications too.
Maybe the DJs could have free choice of music, within reason of course
& maybe use the Top 100 as a guide?
I know Simon Veness will have done a rundown of these tracks already,
but they are Classics after all.
No one has yet commented on my idea to play out with DSOTM in full.
Any thoughts on that?
Nick: Any thoughts on all of this?
I'll put something on the HR DJ message board to see who might want to
get involved. We won't be able to use everyone.
Steve has agreed to sort the DJ line up out as per usual.

Andy

Andy and all.
I have looked in to the chart and completed both single and album
best selling Rock chart so far up to 2007.
My issue is that the is too much band repartition coming up and
wouldn’t make good listening. Eg. 1993 single and album Meat Loaf.
1994/5 Single and album Bon Jovi.
1997 98 99 albums Metallica.
Compiling from UK Rock and Metal charts from the Official UK chart
company
Don’t think it’ll work, I’d switch off to be honest as it is not
Rock Party enough.
Perhaps the guys who did the HR roadshows can come up with some
floor fillers for a party night feel.

Ok, let's try & get this sorted as we only have a week to go.
I'm going to suggest that we forget the Zoom/video chat idea, as
the slight time lag would make it a problem & we want things to
be as easy as possible.
We have 6 hours from when Jon Robson finishes at 6pm until
midnight & closedown.
Nick has assured me that we don't need the hour between live DJs,
as long as we make sure they log out & in properly.
This should only take minutes, if that, so we could maybe let
Robojock play one track between DJs & then log in at the end of
that track, unless it's a long one!
How does that sound? Will that work?
I'll put something on the HR DJ message board to see which DJs
might like to be involved. Obviously we'll only be able to use a
few, and only a few could actually do it anyway, but I want to at
least give them the option.
Steve: Would you be happy to sort out the final night DJs if needed?
Ralph: How's your Top Rock singles & albums chart rundown coming
along? Is this still a feasible option? Don't worry if not, I
know it will be a lot of work.
If not I'd still like to play out DSOTM before closedown.
Sarah: Is your phone software easy to use & could we get other
live DJs to download & use it as well?
Thoughts & ideas welcome.

Sounds like a plan Sarah if it works.
I’ll use the official Rock and metal charts from 1994 onwards.

Me and Tony Davis are going to test this out over this coming
weekend because we were going to try it on the final Retro Rock
Show.
I have no idea what form this would take for final night but we
would just need to work out some sort of signal for me to hit
the play button.
Its another option.

Ok if find out and sort a list then we will see which tracks
each DJ needs. I bet most have them anyway.
Which chart should I use.
Official album/ singles chart. Or
Official Rock album/ singles charts
R
I don’t mind compiling it any way and if it gets used then fine.
If not I’ll use it for a HR History show next time.

Nice idea Ralph, but that would take quite a lot of work to
sort out, unless you're volunteering of course? 😉
We'd need to collect all of the music & make sure the relevant
DJ on the night had it.
My understanding is that only Richard Stack is using the HR
database, all other DJs are using what has been sent to them,
or their personal collections. Please correct me if that's not
right.
My original thought was to try & find a way to use Zoom, or
similar, for DJs to be on screen & maybe announce some tracks,
and have a chat about the broadcast.
I'm not sure how we'd actually broadcast that & the live audio
stream at the same time, as I understand there's a time lag.
Also, how would we broadcast the video part so that listeners
could see it, but not be involved themselves, for security reasons?
Incidentally, my idea was to play out DSOTM in the run up to
midnight, not afterwards, but not be too precious about it
finishing dead on midnight.
Steve: Have you got any idea which DJs are on, or available,
for the final night?
Thought & ideas welcome.

** Hastings Rock Radio **
How about playing a track from the number 1 Rock album and the
number 1 Rock single of the last 27 years HR had been on Air ?
That should give a good 54 tracks to play out on the last night.

you wouldn't want to conduct your sensitive business meetings
with it for those reasons but for what we want it'll probably
be fine. Can't add much more on the subject, I've been involved
as a participant in a couple of them now but have never set one
up. Suspect it's fairly easy though.

setting up Teamviewer for the remote studio access thing that
it's pretty poor where music is concerned, being more geared up
for voice conferences which don't need such high bit rates.
Zoom may well be set up in a similar vein but I've no
experience to confirm or deny this. Obviously won't affect what
is going out "over the air" mind just what the participants hear.

email chat as I raised a possible alternative (if you weren't
fussed about video) about it outside the group but I'll
summarise it here:
>
> At the back of the guide I produced for DJ's remoting into
the studio is a section on an alternative audio setup using
some software called "mumble" which was included there to
improve the DJ's audio link to the studio. It's basically a low
latency audio chat system (think Zoom without the video but
(probably) higher quality audio).
>
> The server is all set up here, downside is everyone needs to
install the client software - I can lift from this guide but
it's added complexity so Zoom may be easier from that
perspective. Plus I think having video might be quite nice for
everyone who's been involved this year to see each other....
