Wow, thanks for that.
I actually have the same kind of view. If you're going to make a cover the same as the original almost note for note, just get a karioke backing track and add the vocal.

Alice Cooper's rule for doing a cover is that it must add something to the
original or you shouldn't bother. You certainly did that - works for me big 
time.

Hi folks.

I've just uploaded the first draft demo of a track I've been working on.

It's a cover of the George Benson classic, On Broadway.

I'm sure he'd hate it, but I've had a lot of fun recording it so far.

I've used Stylus RMX, Trilian, Omnisphere and the VP-550 in this recording. 

Needs a little more variety in the drum track, but I'd say it's 90% done.

I'd love to hear your thoughts good or bad.  It certainly won't be
everyone's cup of tea, Dawn, my partner hates it with a passion.
