As I understand it, Duxbury attempts to make its software platform independent. One way to accomplish that is to write your own code instead of using MicroSoft's system calls. While things work pretty well most of the time, DBT occasionally exhibits some quirky behavior in the MS Windows environment. Of course, one problem is that MicroSoft keeps changing the operating system, and hence its behavior. Using their system calls might eliminate problems with Windows, but it would be impossible to keep DBT platform independent.
