Francis,

As a general rule, the people I've been working with still need to do some minor tweaking to the file in DBT before it's ready to emboss. Some do use Swift to open the file in DBT, but they haven't been sending it straight to the embosser. But, I encourage you to experiment with what works best for you. If you've already been sending Word documents straight to your embosser, it should work equally well for this.

If you want to use Swift for any Word file that uses the braille template, you MUST be sure to set DBTs English (American Textbook DE) - BANA template as your default. Have your global embosser setup already taken care of.

If your DBT default is set to one of the other templates, and you want to keep it that way, you'll need to start DBT, and then import the braille styled Word file using the English (American Textbook DE) - BANA template. Finish off your file, translate and emboss.

I have been reading the postings on this topic and there is just one thing I need to know.

My Braille template is on the desktop and if I copy and paste a Word file into the blank document can I just apply the DBT styles to the print document and they will work? How do I then emboss the document, via the Swift utility or do I then have to import the file into the DBT program and then do an embosser setup for that particular document?

Gary, I'm glad you were able to find a solution to your problem through Swift.

When you open the braille template, two toolbars should appear. One is a toolbar with style menus. The other toolbar is for a variety of character styles. If the toolbars don't appear automatically you can go to View | Toolbars or right click anywhere within the toolbar area. There are three braille toolbars, Braille - Character, Braille -Nemeth, and Braille - Styles. Unless you are doing math, you will only need the select the Character and Styles toolbars.

Hi Cathrerine,

I opened the braille template and still don't see the tool bars. I have the swift macro showing on the menu bar. Under the dbt menu bar is a tab called format hyperlink. George Bell gave me a little trick that works great. When on a hyperlink go to the end and delete the space then hit the space bar to re-enter it. This will cause the line to become a hyperlink field. I tried it and it works great. It also works for e-mail addresses. This works in a document that already exists.
