Well what do I know! :-) The gcc error (emailed off-site) is not a
configuration problem but an actual problem in the code: all the errors
occur between `#ifdef DEBUG` and `#endif` statement, so it's very probably
a case of debug code rot, no mystery. Those tend to get less attention
than release for obvious reasons.

I assume vidrep should file another ticket titled "input_server does not
build with DEBUG=1" as I've seen that happen before in the ticket timeline
for other components. Once that other ticket is resolved we can come back
to this one.
