In your UserBuildConfig example you are setting DEBUg to 3, so the file
will be in debug_3 (not release or debug_1). I'm not sure if the
input_server does things differently with different debug levels, usually
I only use the value 1. Maybe that was your problem with UserBuildConfig,
because I never had issues with setting DEBUG that way. Also note that you
need to create the file, if it doesn't exist yet (in the git repo there is
only a sample file named UserBuildConfing.sample).

Using UserBuildConfig is better, because it is a "private" file and you
can easily keep your settings there (for testing or customizing your
build). If you change the Jamfile directly, you can mistakenly include the
change in a patch/commit, and also you can get git merge conflicts if
someone else changes the file.

I did as instructed but the debug build of input_server failed. I have
attached a copy of the build log, jamfile and UserBuildConfig files that
were used. Perhaps somebody can fix them if they are incorrect, and attach
them to the ticket for download. Thanks.
