Actually I don't even have that issue and I'm using el capitan and have ben

Voiceover would come on with command F5 in the normal way.
Why Apple have started introducing log on screen during update which do not
have VO speaking, even if it is the system default is a bit of a mystery for
me.

I had somebody come to look at the computer yesterday to make sure I knew
what was going on. Apparently it was updating and needed my Apple ID and
password. However, voiceover was not speaking that. I thought, during
updating, voiceover would still speak to me. At least I think that is what
happened before. Has anybody had this problem? I did push the command to
get VoiceOver to speak but nothing happened. Once updating was over it came
up talking.
