SSD's aare quick to erase and also secure as a data wipe is different in the case of an SSD. a rotational drive relies on the use of magnetic writing of data and as such to secure wipe a drive means doing a multi-pass wipe / re-write of data in the case of false binary data. As I use SSD's on my own workstations for high complexity work, data storage, backup and recovery, these drives perform brilliantly. if as I say you're looking for a cheap mobile storage solution that's USB powered, any USB to 2.5" sata drive enclosure will do fine and use a samsung 7200rpm 2.5" drive, simply install to the enclosure, mount to OS X, partition it into OS X journaled. I'd create 2 partitions. 1 small 20 / 30gb boot partition for installations, recovery instances and the other as data / source. simple my friends, simple in deed. lew On 8 Oct 2013, at 15:36, Scott Granados <scott@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> wrote: > Not wrong he just over simplifies for his audience which makes sense because > they tend to be targeted at the general user. > > SSD is very easy to erase. > > On Oct 8, 2013, at 9:22 AM, David Hilbert Poehlman <poehlman1@xxxxxxxxxxx> > wrote: > >> I stand corrected, Leo Laporte was wrong. >> >> On Oct 8, 2013, at 8:47 AM, Scott Granados <scott@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> wrote: >> >> Of course they can be erased.:) >> >> We have to erase the drives from our routers before we ship them back for >> the customer for RMA work etc. You can erase them either with software or >> by removing a battery with in the drive in some models.
