Hi,
water-power isn´t a clean energy too.
A friend works in a water powered plant in switzerland, so i had the chance to see what tey are doing in detail. The point is here: They use a huge amount (more than 75 %) of the water of the mountain-creeks for the power-plant and there are 3 manbuild lakes for storing water in the upper mountain region. I can understand nature activists who wants to see the water where is flows naturally. OK, i live in a softcoal mining area, i know what burning coal does to the nature. No comparision whith water-power, but you can´t call it clean.

The Point is to reduce the need of energy !
It is the weight of the vehicle. The heavier it is the more energy is needed to drive it. A car needs 400000 Watt (40 kW / ~55 HP) minimum. My car has more than 2x and is a very economical one. A electified HPV like alleweder needs 500 W. No question which kind of 500 W, clean or not. OK, i know its hard to compare, 4-5 Persons with luggage in a Car going fast and one Person with a bag in the electrified HPVcreeping with 25 km/h, but in reality most trips are with a single driver without luggage in reality - with the nasty car. (The BC of my Car shows an avg. speed of 48 km/h for the last 3000 km)

The weight of cars was increasing more and more, look to the big ones for the american market of the last years. The price of fuel will lead us back to the 1950 with very small and lightweight cars. (Google for "Messerschmitt Kabinenroller" or "BMW Isetta" to see two german beauties of this time ! )

Global warming isn´t the point for me.
Mankind will learn to live with the consequences, it is not the first time to learn to live in a diffrent way. Also the nature will change, but not die.

The point is the danger of very big harm to our children because energy is the primary thing what delivers might and comfort.
Some will fight wars for their advantages. Did anyone say "Iraq" ?
Maybe it is already too late to stop this process ...

At least in hilly areas, there should be no coal burned to produce electricity. cheers, Torben - current(!)ly building the ElFocus to save gasoline : http://www.scheel.net/HPV/ElFocus/index.htm

I'd be interested to see what the amount of coal burned to produce
    that recharge is?!?
