I was thinking something like that too. If someone refers you to a particular page you really have to be reading the same edition for that to be meaningful anyway. However, I do wonder how you make a citation when citing an ebook. The last time I was writing papers that required citations ebooks did not exist. Nevertheless, I do recall reading manuals that gave instructions on citing media that had only come into existence recently when the manuals were written, so I would suppose that there must be some kind of standard now for ebooks, but I would not know what the standard is. I know that I question including indices in books being scanned for Bookshare because virtually every device that reads them has a search feature that renders the index useless, but I am still not sure how one would go about citing a reference to a book that had no page numbers.

Hi Rik, The problem with random insertions of page breaks is that they won'tcoincide with any print book. And what folks want is the ability to be told "Turn to page 101." and be able to get there. This can only be done if thebook with the EXACT same ISBN is read by both readers. So, inserting page breaks at 25-line intervals won't solve that problem. I suggest that if folks want to be able to navigate to the same spot in a book as their hard copy reading friend, they might ask for the first few words of page on the given page and then do a "find" for those few words (almost all daisy readers have this capability) and navigate to the same place in that way. As for being able to site page numbers, the same technique would have to be used I suppose. It isn't perfect, I know. And, Sandi, I should have replied to your own note, but I just didn't and thought for a bit on what you said. Please, if you find errors in brf copies of publisher quality books, please make book quality reports and state whether you think the errors might be errors in braille translation. Bookshare can't change the content of a publisher donated file, but if thebraille translator being used by Bookshare needs tweeking, it helps staff toknow where to look for errors created by the braille translator.Okay, it's way too late, and I have a huge pile of laundry hollering at me.Hope all are finding good books to read and means with wich to read them that do the job they want. And it reads fine. Except as we agreed, without the ability to navigate by page. I agree with those who have stated the opinion that page navigation has tostill be an important component we come to rely upon in our reading, and has been a real benefit of the Bookshare experience, for myself, and am glad tohear others feel the same.I agree, with you, too, however, Mayrie. The fact that the books are comingfrom the publishers is great, and something we have also advocated for.If it is true, that thinking caps can come on and we and Bookshare staff cancome up with a way to take those and, while there is no page number, to as one said, at least just designate that so many lines is a page and put themarkers in there. I'm not at all technical enough to know how. But I bet it could be done, and in such a way that it would not have to require a ton ofextra time. Just something for the good old long Bookshare wish list, I reckon. And thankful I remain that the collaborative spirit remains in Bookshare. Ithink it is a great endeavor. And one I appreciate all of you for being a part of. Meanwhile, I am glad to get a book so quickly. A few years ago, I was out there going and buying these new books and scanning furiously to submit those which I had gotten a fever for from listening to the author on their book tour doing the radio or tv circuit. Now, I have reformed. Since a couple times or more I did that and found thatmy submission was rejected and the message said it because the book was already in the collection. I was not paying enough attention to know this was happening. Anyway. I rattled on again, too long, too. Thanks. Rik JamesPS. Now, back to Radio Unnameable with Bob Fass on WBAI. It is my one latenight! My Montana stream, a campfire heard crackling all the way from the Big Apple!
