Dearest Anni,
I am grateful and very moved by your contributions. I can see from what you
have written here that you are helping many people through your work. Thank you.
You asked those who are sitting back to contribute their thoughts, and you
provided a wonderful context: that in doing so, we help the children and all
who have experienced this trauma. Thank you for naming that. Courage grounded
in love!
What I noticed for myself was that when you described the torture and acts of
child pornography, it helped shake up my own misconceptions.
It made me think of the work of photographer Sally Mann. For those who don't
know her work, her photos include images of her naked children. Today, as a
mom, I find her images beautiful and evocative. But when they first came out,
was sensitive to the controversy they created. Naked children becomes an
automatic trigger for accusations of child pornography.
What I felt in reading your email is the tremendous social value in naming and
cultivating childhood that is beautiful, sacred, infused with life and joy and
"nakedness" that is both literal and metaphoric. Celebrating such "nakedness",
and experiencing how it is clearly distinct from the trauma you describe feels
healing to me.
Again, gratitude to you for creating the space for this conversation-and thank
you Ursula for bringing it up.

Anutosh,
Well, I am not sure we can lessen the perversion as you say. What a promise
of hope that would be! But that death is a key component in my observations
is clear. The family is persecuted, family members die, the family flees, the
family denies their identity which means that they also deny the deaths of
those lost in the persecutions. That seems to be the line I have observed.
Reclaiming the family identity in some way also includes seeing their dead.
So the sex and death here dance like blind partners. Perhaps the sexual
aspect of pornography of the child also is a plea for new life amidst trauma.
These things have many aspects and are truly complex.
I think if we simply allow the mother and the father to stand exactly as they
are then we move into truth. The mother and father of the child photographed
are seen in their fullness even if the child does not really know the
history. The mother and father simply claim all their heritage. I think this
is a starting point. And perhaps seeing the hidden dead may add to this.
Just some more thoughts. I am so grateful for this thread because like most
of us, I don't choose to spend my time thinking about these issues on a sunny
summer afternoon. So the conversation is asking me to collect and share on
this topic with which I am so familiar.
Today is the National Victor Walk in Canada to being awareness, advocacy and
healing to child sexual abuse issues. I am just heading out to join our local
walkers as they meet at our government buildings. To have spent last night
and this morning thinking and writing about child sexual abuse/ child
pornography I again see the universe drawing things toward the one. I hope to
make some lovely connections with amazing people today. A good day to bring
awareness to an issue seldom talked about. I may just not the 'coincidence'
of it all to some of the walkers who have already journeyed from Toronto to
Ottawa and are meeting our Members of Parliament today. We can never know the
impact our conversation have in the grand systemic picture. Today is exactly
the right day to be having this conversation.

Thank you Ursula for asking and Thank you Anni for your sharing.
I am very touched by your courage and generosity dear Anni.
Sex and death seem to go hand in hand and also such taboo on these topics.
Wondering if they were given their rightful places, perhaps there will be
less pervertion?!

Ursula, One question you posed I quote: "> Still there is the difference
between child pornography and the explicit act
(?)."
I am not entirely certain what you mean by the question. Do you mean that
there is a difference between taking child pornography pictures and an
explicit sexual assault to the child or do you mean something different? I
would love to discuss more after you have clarified the question. Thanks.
I know that often some persons who are not familiar with child pornography
may sometimes believe the pictures are only naked children. This is not
the
case although some pictures certainly may only be this. There are images
that we would not normally consider nor would we even really imagine that
are deep in the secretive world that is a money machine in child
pornography. I think we cannot discuss the issue without some definition
of
the kinds of pictures that are taken of children. Of course, there are a
variety of raping a child, but ligatures and other tortures are used.
Children are sexually assaulted by the use of animals and I would think
innumerable objects of penetration. Images that include things such as
snakes and other things, perhaps insects are other ways of manifesting
torture. And, yes, dead persons are used as sexual partners for children,
sometimes complete with coffin. I am not trying to alarm anyone but when
the media speaks of child pornography there is never reference to the
kinds
of images that children are used for aside from disclosure of nude
pictures. This is a social disconnect. As facilitators we need to be aware
of the extent of the meaning for children when we say child pornography.
I also say these things so that someone who is inexperienced with trauma
and the depth of where these memories must be held by a child in order for
that child to get up and go to school the next day are clear. There is
deep
dissociation as there often is with child sexual assault and other
traumatic experiences. To hold this kind of trauma in a constellation
there
needs to be an incredible gentleness in a fully safe environment. These
are
usually not one session bits of work but deep processes that take a very
long time to bring into awareness.
Let's bathe this conversation in a lake of love. For us and for those with
whom we work. I suppose I ought to share. Some of this is my own story.
Not
the most severe but some. It is obviously why I choose to work with these
issues but also it is why a lot of people are drawn to me. I have lived
it.
And the love lake is just a wonderful place to rest. Hugs! Anni
