Hi Tim, my name is Ross, I also am wanting to make use of the piano roll in sonar 5. I see what you are saying about jaws not being accessible in the piano roll window, I was wandering is there any other way of creating bassline, synth patterns without using the piano roll. Obviously also without using a keyboard or some instrument, I want to be able to do it myself on the computer. thanks Ross

Phil,

The Piano Roll is a sort of half-way house between step record editing and
editing using the Event View. It's a lot easier for a sighted person to see
where notes line up to others at their start and end points when using this
view, so it's really useful if you're preparing patterns, drum or otherwise,
that you're intending to loop, as you can make note durations, etc, really
tight without having to quantise.

Must have another look at it myself to try and figure out how you could
express its output in speech and/or Braille, but it certainly wouldn't be
easy, though it would be great if we could make it possible.

It's absolutely the right thing to do to define to a manufacturer why we
need something to work then offer suggestions as to possible methods of
making it happen.

Best wishes.

Hi Sean!!

It's a view that's never been supported by CT. My guess is that, if it were
scriptable then, David would have done it by now.

I need to take a look at it again. Looked at it briefly however, still not
entirely convinced that, it's a view that could be made really accessible in
it's current state, ether with CT or, JSonar. For example, if you locate a
MIDI note in there, pressing enter on it, won't allow you to alter the
value.

Also, the various values in the piano roll view, only spoke in JSonar, when
I set the Jaws highlight to "Say All." Perhaps if we had a good
understanding of what the piano roll view is used for then, we could present
a good case to 12 tone, explaining why it doesn't work in it's current
state, and what would be required to put it right.

It would be worth you getting some of your eyes over there to take a look at
it with you. That would probably confirm it for you.

Regards, Phil Muir
