ah, I see, yes, it is critical that you pretend vo is working so get it to 
chatter while raising the volume.

Ok. This also happened to me.
Plug in the headphones. Do the command to start reading the screen, (flick 
up with two fingers)
While voiceover is reading, unplug the headphones, and start pressing up 
volume.
