I've never used an iPhone and gave up on the one Android smartphone I
ever owned as soon as my vision got too blurry to reliably tap the
correct part of the screen when the dial screen was up, and that was
way back in the Android 2.2 days. I took my dad's old Samsung flip
phone when he got his first iPhone back in 2013 and since then I've
only gotten a new phone once(namely a LG Wine 4) and I'm currently the
only person in my household with a paid off cellular device.
I'm probably being unfair, having never used talkback or voiceover,
but I wasn't a fan of the slate form factor back when I could see,
thought typing on a touchscreen was a pain in the anatomy even when I
could see, and I have trouble imagining how a touchscreen-only
interface could be adapted to blind use if rumble remains the extent
of tactile feedback on such devices, and if what I over heard during
my time at the Rehabilitation Center for the Blind was any indication,
those who did have smartphones had to relie on voice commands more
than I'd be comfortable with.
I am hoping one of my house mates will let me experiment with their
old Android when they are elligible for upgrade in October, but I
don't have the money to spare on trying out a new phone without any
guarantee I'll actually be able to use it. Also wish some of the smart
flip phones I've heard about would see release here in the US.
As for the Pi 4, figured it wasn't out yet since all the results for
Raspberry Pi on Amazon.com are still for the Pi 3.
