I would think that the capacitance and cross talk in a few inches of ribbon
could well slow down or corrupt transfer from/to the card.
Unless somebody can assure that such is not the case I'd try it first
with a card holding non critical data.

Hi, Folks.===========================================================
I recall there were grumblings about the handling of the micro-SD memory
cards.
May I suggest an adaptor cable to convert micro SD , on Amazon.
It is a few inches of flat ribbon with SD and micro SD ends.
The cable could be bent and stuck to wherever the SD slot would be handy.
I make no other claims about this inexpensive item.
The line which follows is possibly longer than the actual cable. Copied and
pasted as it is.

Subject: [raspberry-vi] Re: Raspberry Pi 4
In all fairness, when I went blind back in 2012, I had already been
using Linux full time for about six years and had gone through two
semesters of Java, so I was already use to using a text editor for
editing source code and configuration files.
When I had to start using screen readers, LibreOffice Writer became a
lot harder to use while nano's usability wasn't hampered all that
much, and thinking back, I might've been using Libreoffice writer more
because pretty hard copies is what my college professors expected than
actual preference for using a word processor.
And yeah, the Pi can do basically anything a Desktop Linux box can do
and in practical terms, the only thing I use my desktop machine for
that I haven't managed with a Pi is surfing the web with Firefox and
Orca and that arguably has more to do with Orca and Firefox both being
lumbering behemoths in terms of system requirements than the Pi flat
out not being able to do it. Even with that limitation, a Pi proved a
suitable alternative to a laptop for the last couple of semesters of
my bachelor's degree and at a fraction of the volume and weight even
with the need to carry an external battery pack and a full-sized
wireless USB keyboard(speaking of which, it's nice having a portable
computer that I can seamlessly use the same primary input method as I
use with my main desktop rig instead of having to deal with subtle
differences between a desktop and laptop keyboard or between
completely different IO paradigms).
That said, even if I had a usable touch screen device, I think I would
want to keep my flip phone for making calls as, in my experience,
modern smartphones are quite awkward to hold to the side of one's head
for actually using them as phones, especially given the trend towards
blurring the line between phone and tablet.
