I do this now but I just use a USB speaker off the Raspberry pi or a USB
headset because I most ly use my RPI 400. If I am using my RPI 4 I use a
3.5 hamburger speaker I got from parallax. That way I can code from windows
and ssh in if I need to. With that said I like coding from the command line
using emacspeak for now. I will switch back to speakup once I have time to
blow this one up and get speakup running. I have just re-wrote my SD card
today so maybe I will be using just command line soon. I find Orca still a
bit sluggish on the PI.

Hi,
I have another question. If I SSH into my PI4 from windows, and start
writing Python code which plays audio files or simply try to play audio
files from the command line using MPG123, will I be able to hear the sound
through the Windows 10 SSH?
I know it is silly, but for now, I simply would rather hear JAWS while I am
learning to code and I still like the Linux command line. And, WSL really
annoys me with its inability to play Sound and I am wanting the best of both
worlds for now until I can make adjustments to my PI 4 later (like
installing Voxin and mastering the Orca screen reader).

Yes, I did turn on virtual machines in the control panel and still could not
get my virtual machines to work either in virtual box or VM player. It was
all very annoying.
I do not know if I will try all this again on this second windows machine I
have because I had some major issues with my last HP box and cannot get it
started again and I lost some data from that crash.
Are you able to run WSL Ubuntu and virtual machines via VM Player in
windows?

Thanks to all for their response about the terminal verses console
explanation. By the way, yes, I did try WSL (Windows Subsystem for Linux)
and it worked quite well. The only annoyance was that I could not get audio
to play in the command line. I could have just accepted it and play my
audio via Windows since the files were connected to both Windows and Ubuntu.
But, for some reason, I was so annoyed with no audio in their limited Ubuntu
version. In addition, having WSL blocks you from running virtual machines
in Windows. I really like having access to virtual machines.

Speaking of scp, I don't know if there's a Windows equivalent, but I make
regular use of sshfs, a command that lets one use ssh to mount a remote
filesystem to the local directory tree.
