Radnor Lake State Natural Area Davidson Co. Nashville, TN 15 September 7-10 am, partly cloudy Arrived at Radnor Lake this Wednesday morning only to find a pair of rare birds in the west parking lot. These refugees from the Gulf Coast were pushed north to Nashville by Hurricane Ivan. It was good to see David and Carrie Dortch again, but given the circumstances, I hope their homes along the coast are in relatively good shape when they return. They almost immediately made a splash when Carrie found the best bird of the morning, a male BLACK-THROATED BLUE WARBLER, which is a rare fall migrant in Nashville. He was only the second one that I've seen this year in Nashville. Phillip Casteel joined the three of us as the advance party for the NTOS Wednesday Walk. Migration continued to improved from yesterday's good showing, with a variety of flycatchers (including YELLOW-BELLIED and LEAST) and a nice vireo turnout as well as 12 species of warblers. The main NTOS group caught up to us at long bridge, at which time I had to leave for work. Thus, they may have gotten additional species after I left.
