Hello Birders, This Saturday, January 11, Ruben Stoll will be leading the NTOS around the Duck River Unit of the Tennessee National Wildlife Refuge. We expect to see many different species of waterfowl, raptors, and possibly even an interesting sparrow or two. We will be meeting at the Bellevue Park-and-Ride located on exit 196 off I-40 West at 7:00 A.M. and then carpool over to a little strip mall consisting of a Dollar General and a few other stores at the corner of Highway 70 and Long Street in New Johnsonville. If you would prefer to meet us in New Johnsonville, please be there by 8:30 A.M. Since some of the waterfowl will be distant, it may be helpful to bring a scope if you have one. Please make sure to dress according to the weather as it may rain. The outing will last most of the day so bring snacks, a lunch, and drinks. Directions to the strip mall in New Johnsonville are below. Directions to strip mall at the corner of Highway 70 and Long Street: From I-24 West merge onto I-440 West (exit 53) toward Memphis. Continue for about 8 miles, then merge onto I-40 West toward Memphis. After approximately 55 miles, take exit 152 for TN-230/Bucksnort. Merge onto TN-230 and continue for about 6 miles. Turn left at the stop sign onto TN-230/Bold Springs Road. Continue for another 8.5 miles and then turn right onto TN-13. After 4 miles, turn left onto West Main Street. Turn right onto Clydeton Road, then left onto Highway 70/1. Continue for approximately 10 miles until you come to Long Street. The strip mall will be on your left. Hope to see you all there for an exciting day of birding! Chloe Walker NTOS Field Trip Coordinator Murfreesboro, TN ( betterbirdhabitats.blogspot.com )
