Are you interested in seeing Lark Sparrows, Grasshopper Sparrows, Dickcissels,
and Scissor-tailed Flycatchers? Then join the NTOS this Saturday, June 7th, as
Terry Witt and Chloe Walker lead the group around Rutherford County and Wilson
County to look for some of these fascinating grassland birds. We will be
meeting in the Discovery Center parking lot in Murfreesboro (information
including lat./long. can be found here.) at 7:00 A.M and will most likely take
a brief walk around the wetlands before departing for Wilson County. As I
mentioned above, Lark Sparrows, Grasshopper Sparrows, Dickcissels, and
Scissor-tailed Flycatchers are almost guaranteed to be found on this trip,
since they breed in the area. Other species of possibility include Red-headed
Woodpecker, Yellow-crowned Night-Heron, Eurasian-collared Dove, Loggerhead
Shrike, or Bewick's Wren. This outing could last 'til mid-day, so pack a lunch,
snacks, and drinks. Bug spray may be useful
since we will be traveling through mostly agricultural area and briefly
through wetlands. Finally, dress cooly as the weather will be quite warm.
Birders of all ages and skill-levels are welcomed to join us! Directions to the
Discovery Center can be found below.

Directions to the Discovery Center in Murfreesboro (502 SE Broad Street,
Murfreesboro, TN 37130)
From Nashville, take I-24 East-bound and travel for about 30 miles. Merge onto
exit 81B for US-231 N/ S Church Street. Go approximately 2.3 miles, then turn
right onto SE Broad Street/ US-41 S. Travel about 0.5 miles until you come to
the first traffic light. Turn right at the light, into the Discovery Center
parking lot.

Notes: This is an easy field trip with mostly driving and little walking. Also,
if this field trip needs to be canceled for any reason, a post will be sent via
TN-bird on Friday evening.

***Get it on your calendars! The next NTOS field trip will be at Bowie Nature
Park in Fairview on July 12, 2014 at 7:00 A.M.!
