There were 3 birders on today's monthly birdwalk at Prince william County's
Merrimac Farm. We tallied 26 species on a very pleasant walk through this
delightful property. Our highlights included 3 Hooded Mergansers on Cedar
Creek, a Hermit Thrush scolding us from a grove of Red Cedars, and a single
Cedar Waxwing near the Stone House. These walks are sponsored by the Prince
william Conservation Alliance and take place on the last Sunday of each month.
Merrimac is a largely unknown site in Northern Virginia that attracts more
birds than birders. It's out of the way, but well worth the drive. Check the
website (http://www.pwconserve.org/events/index.html) for further information.
