I spent 3 hours at Occoquan Bay this morning. Lots of sparrow activity early
on, particularly along Bayview Road between Easy Road and Charlie Road. Along
this stretch I saw lots of song and white-throats, 2 fox, 1 white-crowned, 6
swamp, 6 field, and 2 savannah, plus an eastern towhee. Another sparrow hot
spot was at the end of Charlie road. All sparrow species seen earlier except
white-crowned were present. I heard a rusty blackbird along Deephole Point
Road as I approached the gazebo. At the river a common loon flew by in
formation with a coromorant. Also in the river were 5 horned grebes, hundreds
of coots, and a variety of ducks, including gadwall, American wigeon, ruddy
duck, bufflehead, red-breasted merganser, lesser scaup, and ring-necked duck.
