You are correct Chris. the values for Waves in the inspector are
pretty wacky in a lot of cases. I have version 9. I don't think it
matters.

So I went through a bunch of Waves plug-ins today with the inspector.
It doesn't appear as though the inspector sees the factory presets as
a parameter unless I'm really missing something.

This is Kind a unNerving for me. I've grown to love them and depend on
them certainly as a starting point over many years of using Waves in
SoundForge. Interestingly, with HSC in SF, the values make much more
sense. At least for the ones I use mostly.
That's also true for the one sweet spot I've created in Sonar for Waves Reverb.

Also, Chris, I think you said that you save your own presets right?
where do you find them to recall them?

Thanks,
Floyd...

ok now i'm the one confused.

You add effects to the FX Bin but access their
parameters in the Inspector, that is, unless the
effects have been scripted or hot spotted.

Question: With the Waves stuff, have you found
meaninful parameters displayed in the
Inspector? A lot of the time here, I see
accurate names, like attack and release and
threshold on a compressor, but not real world
values in dB and milliseconds. Often, I just see
percentages. I guess it isn't a big problem
since we're supposed to use our ears when
adjusting things anyway, but the geek in me wants
to know what's going on numerically. (grin)

I have Waves version 8 stuff here. Perhaps things have improved with version
9?

Nope, I understood. MY response was misleading.

My question is why is there a difference between the way the inspector
looks at vst parameters compared to just bringing them up from the
effects bin in Sonar or or the effects menu in SF?

Are you saying that the inspector doesn't have a front end
(presentation) layer and the regular track effects does?

Thanks,
Floyd...

no no the plug-ins are listed. I'm talking about
the parameters being exposed, which is why they
show up in the Inspector in Sonar where you can adjust them.

Sorry if I said plugins and meant parameters.

Thanks all,

I'll try the left and/or right bracket thing for changing on/off
switches in the inspector.

Chris, I'm a bit confused about what you said about the inspector
exposing the third party plug-ins to the vst host within Sonar.

Why would the inspector be necessary to expose them?

I still have all of my Waves and some SoundForge plug-ins right there
in my VST list without using the inspector but most of the parameters
are not accessible. The same is true for Waves within SF. What's the
difference?

Hi Floyd.
Parameters showing up in the Inspector is not a
CakeTalking trick. They're just exposed to the
VST host application, in this case, sonar.

Try this:
Really lean on left or right bracket for awhile
and you can usually change the off/on type toggles just fine.

Also, on any of the four parameters shown, simply
hit the applications key. Then Up Arrow once to
the "reassign Control" sub-menu, and hit a Right
Arrow. Pick anything from the list and hit ENTER
to have it now fill one of the four slots in the inspector.

Hey Mike,

I've been trying the inspector after your suggestions the other day.
Works pretty well.

I haven't tried to get a second level of more than 4 parameters with
Waves yet though. I'm hoping the presets will become available as
one
of them. I'll find out tomorrow.

I'm noticing that some parameters with 'on' 'off' choices are stuck
'on'. They won't move.
I'm guessing this is due to other dependent parameters but not sure.

I have to admit I'm impressed though. I can't imagine how David
Pinto
scripted this to pull the parameter label names of third party
plug-ins.

I've tried to pull the parameter labels of Waves plug-ins in
SoundForge with HSC. No dice...

thanks for your help,
Floyd...

I don't think so. Some DAWs have pitch shifting plugs that are
better
than
others. The built-in algorithm in Sonar that deals with formant
just
doesn't cut the mustard. The VVocal editor is good, but it takes
time
to
process tracks with it because you have to
deal with small chunks of data at
a time. I'm sure there's stuff out there, but there may be
accessibility
issues; and you'll most likely be dealing with a fairly pricey
plug
to
get
the desired quality.

Any other thoughts?

Hey man, not strange at all.
I’d use the same thing.
.
.
I’m in to producing hip-hop stuff.
.
.
Here’s one of them.
.
.
and
Aint nothing to me
to get a idea of the type of stuff I do. :p
I was gonna chime in to this and say Reaper
uses LSTique version 1 to 3 by
default.
And there pitch shifting plugins really good.
Yes, at some point it’ll fail after er a
sir tantan pitch, but it still
is
really really good.
How come other peeps can’t make a
a
really smalmall installer like they
do?
And the best part, Reaper’s totally ly portable!
!
So, a question for all.
Because of how Reaper’s built, is th that
t
meaning that there plugins wouldn’t
t
t
be as good as say, some like, Sonar?
Just a thought.
