Kevin,

Sonar doesn't allow you to record a physical click track unless you make the metronome a midi one and route it to a channel on a synth that's set up to give you a percussive click, such as a rim shot on a snare drum. If you're using Sonar's internal audio metronome, you can get around this by physically patching from an output source on your audio interface into your input source, but you'll need to be aware of creating a feedback loop if you patch from the same output and input source. A better solution, which is what I'll be doing at some point in the near future, and that is that you can acquire a program called Virtual Audio Cable. This will give you additional ins and outs for you to route things to. If you have your metronome routed to a Metronome Bus in your projects, you would route it's output to the Virtual Audio Cable, then set an audio track to the Virtual Audio Cable so you can record a physical click track. I run into this quite a bit as I do production for a duo in Florida; They require a couple of measures of click before each song starts. Sonar doesn't allow you to render an internal audio metronome to your mix because there isn't a physical click track to include in the rendering process.

This link should take you to the download section of the Web Site where you can purchase a 32 or 64-bit version of the software:
http://software.muzychenko.net/eng/vac.htm#download
If that doesn't work, you should be able to Google it or use whatever search engine you like to find it. It's not too expensive, but it ought to solve the problem for you.

Hope this helps; and let me know how you make out if you go that route.

Mike

Subject: [ddots-l] Recording a click track using SONAR's Audio Metronome?

guys,

I'm having a senior moment. How does one record a click track using Sonar's audio metronome as the source, rather than using one of one's MIDi instruments? Currently, my audio metronome is output to Master. I thought that, if I chose some other output destination for the metronome on my MOTU interface, such as Analog, 7/8, I could then choose that as the input on a fresh audio track with Master as the output. However, I can't seem to play the click back. what is the proper routing?

thanks,
Kevin
