The uIEC is fine provided you don't intend to run any software that
reprograms the drive. If it does, you're out of luck. This is why it

The 1541 Ultimate can be used in 'stand-alone mode' connected only to
the IEC (serial) port of a Commodore computer. It does not need to be

the 1541U that is used to power it when in stand-alone mode.
