That's what I was thinking of doing, I had looked at a
picture of a C64 motherboard on wikipedia and it looks as
though the back of the IEC connector has all the pins going
to the motherboard installed.  I could solder onto those
pins and keep the port.

I'm planning on keeping it drive 8 though, but that can be
changed on the device with a simple command anyways.
