On a misty morning that eventually cleared to muggy and partly cloudy, our
group tallied 49 species and a Toulouse goose. We had excellent eye level looks
at the barred owl and Baltimore orioles. It was very nice to have a peewee off
the Ridge Trail. On a non birding note we watched dragonflies emerge from the
nymph stage along the river. A handsome pair of common mergansers enjoyed the
river. All are welcome to join this regular Sunday walk that meets at 8ma in
the visitor's center parking lot. -- Marshall Rawson, McLean VA
