Thanks Bill, Sounds like it is possible to get something out of it in win 8 then, so might be worth the shot. Especially since not using much in the way of features, might get away with it, but have feeling it may be the things I need, hahaha. Hanging onto win 7 as long as I can and still prefer keeping dedicated pc for just Sonar, so at this point its still possible to get a very fast computer with a new copy of windows 7. Dave

Hello, Dave, and all,

My recommendation would be to first try installing SONAR and CakeTalking
under Windows8 and 10 with the understanding that some features of
CakeTalking simply will fail. Also, understand that we cannot provide any
technical support for CakeTalking under post-Windows7 versions.

However, if you just want to record and play back some audio tracks, you may
find that it works well enough to do what you have to do. The advantage is
that you won't have to learn a lot of new commands. However, you are the
only one who can determine if CakeTalking offers you enough functionality to
make it a feasible solution under Windows8 or 10. As far as we know, both
SONAR and CakeTalking will install under post-Windows7 versions.

Hi Phil, Perhaps you can help me to understand how this will effect my use
of caketalking with win. 8 or 10. As many are suggesting, i will need to
upgrade from win 7 to 8 or 10 before too long, and though I know it doesn't
work the way it should with the newer 8 and 10, wonder if these changes
effect the basic uses of the recording audio like simply recording audio
from a mic and not using midi. Is this possible with the newer windows. Am
currently not using hotspot clicker or anything like that and primarily
record with line in or mic so kind of hoping could still get away with that
on newer system. Do you know if this is possible or would it not even be
worth my time? Thanks in advance, Dave

Agree with Steve on this :-) Think he is using colour to detect where
we are on screen. That would explain why CT throws a bit of a fit if
something isn't quite write on screen. Note: HSC also does this if we
are using colour to report the status of a button E.G. enabled or
disabled and if that changes for some reason E.G. a different colour
than expected then HSC will throw a fit but in an even more
spectacular fashion :-)

Thanks Bill. If you get a chance to ask him I'd be interested to know
what exactly the sticking point is, as I'd of thought position of
co-ordinates are determined by the screen res and not the theme? Could
be wrong, but there's obviously something that is making the change to
Win 10 insurmountable, but I can't think what it is unless it is
colour...but colours can be changed of course. Best Steve.

Good question for Mr. Pinto, Steve. But I believe it relies on the
Classic theme for more than color. I believe it allows the scripts to
accurately predict X-Y positions of screen objects.

Ok, so CT relies on the Classic theme, but what specifically is it
relying on? Is it just colour? Jaws is hopeless at determining colour
in my experience, as it's very flakey to say the least. HSC uses
another DLL for colour recognision, so just wondering what the
sticking point is. Best Steve.

Hi,

If anyone finds a way to fabricate the Windows Classic theme in
versions of Windows later than Windows7, please let us know. That is,
if you can fabricate the Windows Classic theme and make it so that
CakeTalking works as

it should. As far as I know, David Pinto tried and failed to create a
Windows Classic Theme that would work with CakeTalking under Windows8
and later as it does with Windows7 and earlier.

Here's an entry we need to add to our CakeTalking FAQ page:

Will CakeTalking Work when Installed under Windows8 and 10?

Regretfully, CakeTalking will not run under Windows 10, Windows8. or 8.1.
If you want to upgrade to any of those versions of Windows from
Windows7 or earlier, our recommendation would be to set up some kind
of dual boot so that you would have the option to startup into
Windows7 to use SONAR with CakeTalking or into the newer version of
Windows.
Microsoft dropped support for their Windows Classic theme with release
of Windows8. Since CakeTalking relies on that theme to know the
position of certain objects on the screen, major functions of
CakeTalking fail under
Windows8 and 10.

As an alternative, you can read following topic;

2015-12-20 19:40 GMT+02:00, Phil Muir <info@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>:
The Windows Classic theme doesn't exist in Windows 10. The only
option is to copy it from a Windows 7 install. However, keep in mind
that even if you can do that and get it working then you may well be
compramising other features in Windows 10.
