Agree that it now sounds like you're writing the image correctly. How
are you powering the Pi?

I am also wondering if your router is caching dhcp leases. In that
event,
you may not see a new IP address come up. I speak from experience. Can
you
refresh them on your router? If not, try old IP addresses. The bst thing
to
do is a port scan of your network as others have suggested.
Update the etchar program to fix your problem with the error. That should
be
the first step you take.
