A beautiful morning at Occoquan Bay NWR in Woodbridge. The cool temps kept the
mosquitoes away and there were plenty of birds. I tallied 67 species. Lots of
yellow-rumped warblers were about, but the only other warblers I encountered
were 2 magnolias, a blackpoll, and a common yellowthroat. Sparrow numbers were
not great but diversity is increasing. I saw Lincoln's, FOS white-crowned,
field, song, swamp, white-throated, and eastern towhee, Other notables were an
eastern meadowlark (the first I have seen at Occoquan in quite a while), indigo
bunting, both kinglets, winter wren, blue-headed vireo, purple finch, 23
pied-billed grebes, lesser scaup, gadwall, and Swainson's thrush. Here is a
