Hi Thomas,
this is replying to some of the problems that you have with positioning the
cursor, and selecting audio. Here are one or two things that you may or may not
be aware of.
1. You can change the size of the step when you move the cursor using
left/right arrow, or adjust the selected time range using shift + left/right
arrow and ctrl+shift+left/right arrow. This is done by adjusting the zoom level
- commands and shortcuts are on the view menu. More details are given in my
Jaws guide: In the "moving the cursor section", there's a "step size of the
left and right arrow keys" sub section.

2. When there's no playback you can move the cursor backward and forward in
small steps using the keys comma and period respectively. And in larger steps
using shift+comma and shift+period. These two step sizes share the same values
as those used to seek forward and backwards during playback, and can be set in
the playback category of preferences.

3. If you're wanting to position the cursor when the exact position depends on
the audio leading up to the cursor position, one way of doing this would be as
follows. Select a time range which starts a few seconds before this position
and ends at the position. You can then adjust the end of the selection whilst
being able to listen to the audio up to it. You can then press right arrow,
which deselects the time range and positions the cursor at the end of the
deselected time range.

David.

Hi Manu and others!

Manu:
I’m a Mac-user as well, and I have used Audacity for a couple of months.
I have never got the selection bar to work probably due to some accessibility
issues in Audacity whereVoiceover will not read the numbers if you do not use
the Vo-keys and the arrow keys to read the numbers.
David Bales has written an excellent introduction to Audacity for users of
Jaws, but we can all benefit from this on the Mac too, so try to find this
guide. It is located in the help under advanced, accessibility, I believe.

When you are navigating Audacity you need to do this in a very windows fashion
way. That is not a bad thing, it is just a little unusual compared to how you
would use standard Mac applications.
What you need to do is to move the Mac’s keyboard cursor along with the
Voiceover cursor. That is done by pressing tab or shift-tab, as you do in
Windows. That is very much needed in the preferences since you otherwise will
miss some important informations, and the screen seems confusing. At least that
was what my experience was when i first used Audacity.

You will need to disable a certain checkbox inside the preferences that tells
Audacity to select everything by default, as mentioned by others on this list.

Hi,
Thank for your reply.
I tested theses following actions :
1. R : to record my voice (OK)
2. Space Bar : To play (OK)
3. Shift+A : to pause and put cursor for my begin selection (OK)
4. Right arrow Key few time : to adjust selection landscape bar to play
selection (OK)
5. Delete :( Error) All content of my recording is deleted.
I see in selection bar and the piece of my recording is selected as well.

1. R : to record my voice (OK)
2. Space Bar : To play (OK)
3. Shift+A : to pause and localise the begin selection (OK)
4. Adjust selection with select bar : Begin selection to 000001seconds to end
selection 0000003S (OK)
5. Delete (OK)
But this method is easier than the first method…
Haïe, Haïe, Haïe...

Amicalement…

In windows, and using an english or US keeboard, you can use the left and
right brackets to mark the beginning and end of a selection. In case of a
different keeboard, you can probably change the kee assigned to the marks in
the
keeboard shortkuts dialog under the preferences menu; probably the same applies
to mac as well.

  Thank
you for your fast reply.
Like Windows system, I can select and unselect my track… I’m verifying
before editing my track…
I d’ont understand why I can’t select easily with my arrow
keys…
Can we make any markers on a track like others sound editors ? Beginner
marker and end markers… After we can delete that there’s between two
markers ?
