Hi Manu!

Okay I think I know what’s going on here.
The issue is that your keyboard may not have the bracket keys. My keyboard is a
Danish keyboard, and doesn’t have those keys so therefor I changed them to
something else.
You can do this by exporting your keyboard settings to an xml-document and then
edit this inTextedit on your Mac. It is possible perhaps to change this from
the preferences in Audacity, but the keyboard area of the program is changed a
little, and there might be small accessibility issues here. I do not use this
area myself quite often, so I’m not sure. I did not find it very friendly to
navigate at this time, when I just checked, so therefor I would suggest you
export the keyboard shortcuts, that part is still easy to get to.
1. Go to Preferences
2. FInd in the tabel the item Keyboard.
3. Find the button called Export.
4. Save it as you do with other documents on your Mac, and then close Audacity.
5. Open it in Textedit.
6. Edit the following two lines:
Left at playback position
and:
Right at playback position.
There should be quotes around the bracket keys. DO NOT DELETE THOSE! Only
delete the left and right bracket signs and replace them with g for left, and h
for right.
NOTE: You may have to use capitals letters for Audacity to get the hotkeys
right. That was actually what I discovered after having this issue for YEARS,
and I mean years literally!
7. Save your file and close Textedit.
8. Reopen Audacity, open preferences and find the keyboard section again.
9. FInd the “Import” button, and navigate to your file.
10. Choose to import it, and when you’re done select OK within the preferences
of Audacity.

That should do the trick.
If you want, I can send my XML-document with the changed keys to you of list. I
only changed these two keys, nothing else is changed.

Best regards
Thomas
