Hi Phil. Hindsight is a wonderful thing, but who would have known that MS would do away with the classic theme. Migrating to another win 10 theme, I think is easy enough, it's just about the tedious transition.

Regarding some kind of conversion, I suppose there's a number of ways to go about it. Your post process function would work perhaps for post process functions, but not for spots with specific colour defined. I think it's a matter of coming up with a plan and seeing if Jim would go for it. I have already mentioned the problem, but he's currently working on a big job that I brought up a few weeks ago that really needed addressing. After that, then perhaps he would hopefully think about it I suppose, until more of us get onto that platform, then it's hard to know exactly what's involved and how difficult it would be. Best Steve.

Hey Steve. Agree with you on the choice aspect of this. Obviously can't
speak for David Pinto but don't think the will is there and to be honest as
someone who has done a little HSC development, I totally get that. They
probably wouldn't be able to do this as a free upgrade for Cake Talking
users. Then there would be the issue of CT cost against development for
Windows 8 and beyond. Makes me now wonder if we had all worked with a hi
contrast theme in Windows 7 rather than the Windows Classic theme if we
would still be in this position. On the other hand I wonder if it may be
fairly easy to get Jim or someone else at least in the case of HSC to write
a little wizard that would make all sets with colour detection Windows 8 10
compatible. Here's how it would work. We could have a post processing
function called something like HSC Check sets for Windows 8/10
compatibility. The code would run and update the sets with new colour
detection that would sit along side the old colours that are already in the
sets thus making the sets Windows 8/10 compatible. This should be easy
enough to do as there are known variables for the sets to deal with E.G.
Windows 10 has a colour scheme that could be used. In theory HSC would just
have to know what those colours are. Perhaps the if statement may look like
this.

If HSC set contains colour sets with colour detection then, update code and
add Windows 8/10 compatible colour detection. Else do nothing.

What do you think?

If it is just colour, then why can't they be amended to work with a new
theme? There must be more to it than that, or perhaps the will to do it
isn't there, which I can understand. On this thread, regardless of whether
or not Sonar 8.5 is up to date, if it works on windows 10, then it would be
an option to some users if scripts were available.

The more choice the better, whether it's Reaper, Sonar etc etc etc. Then,
you spend what you want to suit your needs. Trouble is, for all Reaper is
cheap, it doesn't work for all...plus the very low cost of it with NVDA has
a definite effect on 3rd party support, but if you're happy with what you
get and don't expect to be using too many other 3rd party plugs, then it's a

winner. Bottom line, we need to have other choices and not feel as if we
have to use a certain DAW, just because it's accessible. I can guarantee
you that 90% of Reaper users wouldn't choose it as their main DAW if all
DAW's were accessible and they had the choice. Best Steve.

Agree with Steve on this :-) Think he is using colour to detect where we
are on screen. That would explain why CT throws a bit of a fit if something
isn't quite write on screen. Note: HSC also does this if we are using
colour to report the status of a button E.G. enabled or disabled and if that
changes for some reason E.G. a different colour than expected then HSC will
throw a fit but in an even more spectacular fashion :-)

Thanks Bill. If you get a chance to ask him I'd be interested to know what
exactly the sticking point is, as I'd of thought position of co-ordinates
are determined by the screen res and not the theme? Could be wrong, but
there's obviously something that is making the change to Win 10
insurmountable, but I can't think what it is unless it is colour...but
colours can be changed of course. Best Steve.

Good question for Mr. Pinto, Steve. But I believe it relies on the Classic
theme for more than color. I believe it allows the scripts to accurately
predict X-Y positions of screen objects.

Ok, so CT relies on the Classic theme, but what specifically is it relying
on? Is it just colour? Jaws is hopeless at determining colour in my
experience, as it's very flakey to say the least. HSC uses another DLL for
colour recognision, so just wondering what the sticking point is. Best
Steve.

Hi,

If anyone finds a way to fabricate the Windows Classic theme in versions of
Windows later than Windows7, please let us know. That is, if you can
fabricate the Windows Classic theme and make it so that CakeTalking works as

it should. As far as I know, David Pinto tried and failed to create a
Windows Classic Theme that would work with CakeTalking under Windows8 and
later as it does with Windows7 and earlier.

Here's an entry we need to add to our CakeTalking FAQ page:

Will CakeTalking Work when Installed under Windows8 and 10?

Regretfully, CakeTalking will not run under Windows 10, Windows8. or 8.1.
If you want to upgrade to any of those versions of Windows from Windows7 or
earlier, our recommendation would be to set up some kind of dual boot so
that you would have the option to startup into Windows7 to use SONAR with
CakeTalking or into the newer version of Windows.

Microsoft dropped support for their Windows Classic theme with release of
Windows8. Since CakeTalking relies on that theme to know the position of
certain objects on the screen, major functions of CakeTalking fail under
Windows8 and 10.

As an alternative, you can read following topic;
http://www.howtogeek.com/133405/how-to-get-classic-style-themes-back-on-wind
ows-8/

2015-12-20 19:40 GMT+02:00, Phil Muir <info@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>:

The Windows Classic theme doesn't exist in Windows 10. The only
option is to copy it from a Windows 7 install. However, keep in mind
that even if you can do that and get it working then you may well be
compramising other features in Windows 10.
