if your CMOS battery is dead, your clock will lose time and your bios will be
reset if you unplug the power cable from the wall or power supply.
Not sure what your problems with the unit are as I haven't been following the
thread closely, but if your system is an actual dedicated audio machine, and
it's a newer one, USB ports come with their own fuses (sort of speak) so that
if one port shorts out or is damaged in any way, then the motherboard won't
suffer and the rest of the USB buss will still work fine; only the port in
question would be disabled.
CMOS battery wouldn't have anything to do with this. Neither would the battery
on the unit (if it has one, most units do not), as they simply power the memory
chip to hold information, unless that memory is flash memory, as in some cases
is used, in which case no battery power is required.
If when your problem occurred you were connected to 1 of the rear ports on the
pc, try one of the front ports. Those are physically on separate hubs, and thus
very unlikely that they would mess up all at once. Manufacturers separate front
ports from rear ports, because it happens more often than not, that someone
will force one of the front ports, or bend it, or somehow damage the front
ports since they are so easily accessible. So instead of risking the entire USB
buss going down, they put the front port headers on their own hub, to prevent
these issues.
So have you tried using those ports to check?
Is your pc running fine otherwise? Has it shut down on you, randomly frozen, or
does it take particularly long to boot from a cold boot? If these things are
not true, then it probably isn't your pc or power supply either, as problems
there would show up and various places that are easily seen.

Mike, This is good, I have some thought now. I Wonder where this battery would
be and how I'd go about getting another? If it were the battery on my
computer's mother board I wouldn't be able to do what I am doing now would I?
I'm not sure. I appreciate this back and forth, as I know it's the only way to
figure things out. Thanks for your patients and help.
The manual didn't say anything about a battery, but maybe I can talk to a tec
at soundcraft?
I am going to talk to the people at guitar center where we bought it on Monday.
I can't thank you enough for all your advice on this.On 9/29/18, Michael

cpu power supply or board.
I’d seriously try another computer, or simply switch the USB cable to
another port on the computer in other words simply plug in the USB
from the soundcraft alone in to its own port. Like I said before if
the board had been fried you wouldn’t have been able to get any input
or output or any signal from it at all.
True that may be the USB port may have become defective, but that’s
highly unlikely.
In the future as I do, and I’m sure you are doing this, when you have
finished with the board simply unplug it at the end of the day.
Come to think of it, I’m wondering if your sound boards battery has
simply gone.
In every electronic device and in most devices there is a large watch
type battery installed on the main board of your mixer, and this may
simply have to be changed.
These batteries can last from anyware to 1 minute to the whole life of
the board.
Come to think of it as well the same CMOSS battery is installed on
your computer’s mother board.
Let us know if what I have suggested works.
Sounds like we are going back and forth, but its just what happens in
these situations.

Mike, yes you are correct, the board is working without usb. No power
problems. I have a cord going from the headphone jack on the front of
my pc going in to a channel on the board and I'm getting sound from
my computer. I can plug mic and guitar in to channels and they work
just fine. I followed your instructions to the letter and unchecked
all the boxes that said allow the computer to shut off to this device
to save power, but it didn't change the behavior of the board. Still
getting the successful notification sound, (this time it even said
the drivers were installed successfully), but it just keeps trying to
turn it's self on over and over again.

if it was it should not work when the USB cable is unplugged.
What you can try to do is to turn the feature that allows any USB
device to turn off when the computer is trying to go to sleep.
I know that its not happening when your system is on but ,.
Try the following:
go in to the control panel, and select system, Go under system
properties, and elect it, Select device manager, Go under Universal
serial buss, you can easily arrow down to go there, and right arrow
to highlight the USB root hub, and hit your application key and
arrow down to properties, Control tab til you hear power management,
tab over to the control that says allow the computer to turn off
this device to save power, and hit the space bar to uncheck it.
Then tab over to ok and repeat the process for any other of the USB
root hubs.
Remember to arrow down through each hub, and repeat the process.
If you happen to find a USB root hub specifically for the sound
craft, then only repeat the procedure stated above for that device.
Sound a little strange, but you may have received and update that
caused this.
Otherwise if you really want to be sure, try another computer system
to see if this continuers happening, however and I could be wrong
but it should work.
Otherwise if it does happen to another computer system, then it is
the board.
But I just thought you could give this a stab.

Well, a couple of things. The notification sound, (the one that
means success), keeps occurring with the pop. It's like it keeps
trying to turn on over and over again. It only occurs when the
usb is plugged in. We uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers just
to see what that would do, but nothing changed. The board works
fine without usb connection. As for any warrantee, I'm not sure,
we got this board through guitar center, and they gave us a
discount on it. Might have been a damaged board when I got it, but
ran for a little over a year. Thanks for your suggestions and I
will see what I can figure out. I'd hate to start a go fund me
page, as that seems a little selfish when there are people with
really serious problems out there. I mean this is serious, but not
life endangering. The commission for the blind might be a thought though.
I've got to do something because I have customers who want their
material finished. I will look in to the warrantee possibility as
well. Again God bless you for your patients and understanding. I
know why you are such a good trainer. I will be in touch. Pray for
me please?

Hey Terry you said you’ve only had the board for a little over a
year did you check the warranty and see how much you have left
because I am know for a fact that mine has a two year warranty
you can always bring it in and they’ll take a look at it it’s at
soundcraft
Additionally have you ever tried a service called go fund me the
service allows you to raise money is for whatever equipment you
need you can actually reach out to the whole world and you’ll see
if they can help you out to get your new board with moneys I’m
not trying to suggest that everyone go this route but they’ve had
people actually do go fund me campaign’s for their own vacations
and all that jazz just another way to reach out if you’re stuck
or strapped for cash Finally could you not reach out to your
state service to see if they can find you as you’re trying to
start a home business for gaining an income?
I’m just trying to help you out as I can see you’re very very
angry about this just trying to reach out trying to see what
other way I can help you out with Best Sent from my iPhone

Did you try Michael's test of the board without a USB port?
Test your board's power supply. Do you have a voltmeter or
friends with one? If your power supply is bad, maybe it's
trying to suck power from the
USB port and it can start but once it gets going, it needs more
power and can't get enough and drops out.

Dear list, okay, I have determined that my hubs, (all usb ports
on my pc), are fine. Is it possible that the port on the
soundcraft is bad?
If so, can it be replaced? Thanks to all of you especially Rich
and Mike for your help.
