Did you try Michael's test of the board without a USB port?
Test your board's power supply. Do you have a voltmeter or friends with one?
If your power supply is bad, maybe it's trying to suck power from the USB port
and it can start but once it gets going, it needs more power and can't get
enough and drops out.

Dear list, okay, I have determined that my hubs, (all usb ports on my
pc), are fine. Is it possible that the port on the soundcraft is bad?
